-One point for hyperextension of each knee >10º

• Joint hypermobility, which usually is confirmed by a score of five or more on the nine-point Beighton scale 
  [Beighton et al 1973], including:
  

            -One point for passive dorsiflexion of each fifth finger >90º

            -One point for passive apposition of each thumb to the flexor surface of the forearm

            -One point for hyperextension of each elbow >10º

            -One point for hyperextension of each knee >10º

            -One point for ability to place the palms on the floor with the knees fully extended

Here is a photo of my legs… as you can see my knees bend back an abnormally far amount and this is due to the EDS. Because they hyperextend the way they do, my entire posture is thrown off. My ankles and hips turn in, my lower back over compensates and that is where a lot of my daily pain originates. [Both knees do it, however my right knee extends further than my left.]

EDS Awareness Goodies

Today while out and about shopping I came across some clearanced out zebra print stuff at a craft store. Of course normally I wouldn’t think twice about it, but with the new EDS diagnosis and discovering online tons of “Zebras”, support groups and awareness sites I’ve found that Zebra seems to be our thing.. SO. I grabbed a cute journal, some folders, sticky notes, duct tape and a cute reusable shopping bag which I’m going to color the EDS colors and either puff paint “EDS Sucks”or “EDS Awareness” on all of it. ^^

Here goes nothing!

I’m creating this blog in hopes to help spread awareness and help my friends and family, as well as others, to better understand the beast that is EDS [Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome]. There will be posts on the disorder itself, humorous posts and personal updates/rants/etc about my personal struggles. I’d like to get to a point where I can have people submitting things or sending in things to be submitted. I’d really like for this to be more than just one person trying to spread awareness and cope with EDS, maybe, eventually, this could become a community thing. If anyone has any suggestions or comments, PLEASE let me know!
